Immigration Hardship Services
Psychosocial Assessments/Evaluations
Dealing with government officials and navigating the legal system during the immigration process can be incredibly intimidating. The process is even more stressful if you are transitioning from one culture to another, seeking asylum, leaving loved ones behind, or assisting family members with their legal immigration into the U.S.
In circumstances where hardship is a factor, a psychosocial assessment can help you with a case before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
A psychosocial assessment can be helpful to you in cases of:
- Extreme and Exceptional Hardship/Waivers
- Asylum
- Spousal Abuse (VAWA – Violence Against Women Act)
- Substantiation of Good Faith Marriage
- U Visas
- T Visas
The individuals seeking asylum and other related forms of relief bear the burden of proof. If you are dealing with an immigration case where any of the above factors are involved, your attorney will recommend obtaining a psychosocial assessment from a qualified professional.
As a dual-language therapist, I conduct psychosocial assessments and evaluations in both English and Spanish and work with individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
I begin the process by working closely with your attorney to gather information about your case and its specific legal issues. The immigration evaluations include in-depth interviews and generally take two or three sessions. During that time, I assess and document the scope and nature of your hardship.
I will issue a comprehensive report based on the clinical interview, behavioral observations, and a battery of tests and inventories assessing personality. The clinical report helps evaluate a person for mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health issues that may have stemmed from trauma.
This report is sent to your attorney to assist with your immigration case.
If your attorney has recommended obtaining a psychosocial evaluation for your immigration case, you can contact me for a consultation by phone or by email.
